Footwear

Precise production, rigorous shipping.

An industry with strong demands for quality, customisation and export. Small deviations on the line are costly.

Context

The sector,in context.

Portuguese footwear, with its northern cluster (São João da Madeira, Felgueiras, Guimarães, Santa Maria da Feira), is a European benchmark for quality and customisation. Portuguese and international brands turn to national producers for luxury, orthopaedic and specialised collections.

This value-added positioning only holds if the operation is as rigorous as the product — costing by pair, in-line quality control, international logistics with impeccable documentation.

Deep challenges

Where it hurts infootwear operations.

01

Costing by model and by pair

A footwear model has dozens of operations (cutting, stitching, assembly, finishing), each with a standard time and cost. Multiplied by sizes, colours and materials, the combinatorics are large. Accurate costing is the basis for sustainable pricing and for subcontracting decisions.

02

Quality control that cannot be destructive

Branded footwear is inspected visually at multiple points along the line. Digital recording of defects with photograph and location (exactly where on the shoe) feeds a quality history by subcontractor and by operator.

03

Traceability for export

Audits by international clients (especially the US and Japan) require documented traceability from raw material to shipped pair. Audit response time can be the difference between keeping or losing the client.
