Click-and-Collect

A model where the customer buys online and collects the product at a physical store, instead of waiting for delivery.

Full definition

Click-and-collect is one of the most widely adopted omnichannel models in Portugal and Europe. The customer buys online and chooses a physical store in the network to collect the product, instead of paying a delivery charge and waiting for delivery. For the retailer, it turns physical stores into collection points, making use of the existing network. For the customer, it combines the convenience of online buying with speed and zero delivery cost.

Real implementation requires the coordination of several systems: an e-commerce that shows availability per store, a back office that reserves stock, a POS that validates collection, automated notifications to the customer when the order is ready. The most common failure is the e-commerce selling an item the store has already sold in the meantime — real-time shared stock (not periodically synchronised) prevents this leakage.

MAXIRETAIL + MULTI by INFOS support click-and-collect out of the box, with shared stock, automatic in-store reservation, and a clear workflow for the operator preparing the order. The typical adoption rate in well-implemented chains: 15-30% of online orders become click-and-collect in the first year.
